Free Holiday
I had a weeks break in tenerife in september and at the airport my wife was approached by some woman who asked her to enter a competition for a free holiday. She gave a few details and neither of us gave it any further thought.
Yesterday wghile working at home I get a phone call telling me we have won a free weeks accomodation in tenerife or Costa Del sol for 6 people but have to pay for flights which can be taken any time in the next year.
Has anyone else heard or had the same? I imagine it is a timeshare thing but is it worth taking the offer and going anyway?

What Andyd said - it'll be a timeshare thing - they'll want you to be married and have your own house as well

Re: Free Holiday
you'll be forced into numerous 3-4 hour meetings where they hard sell a timeshare

failure to attend means you'll have to pay for your accodation

Re: Free Holiday
I had a friend who did this who did me the "favour" of passing the "opportunity" on to me. Paid about £80 and then the actual dates available were useless and we gave up the £80 as a lost cause. This was almost 20 years ago - never got caught out by that sort of thing again.

Part of me thinks I should just go and see what it is like out there. If they give you the hard sell just say I am not interested.Wifey is very suspicious and thinks it could be a waste od time.

What could the company say if you just sat there saying "I'm unemployed, I can afford £0 down, with £0 monthly for 100 years"?

"Resorts also use touts to lure people when they are already abroad with offers of an extra week's free holiday. Club la Costa's chairman and founder, Roy Peires, describes his business as "high-powered timeshare-marketing programmes". "

Re: Free Holiday
Don't get involved, through work I've seen several people who all went along with the same "what harm will it do, I can just say no" mindset who have ended up in a complete mess. It's not a free holiday, it's not even a holiday, it's a high pressured timeshare or lifestyle credit con.

Always wondered who the imbeciles were who considered these things. Darwinism raw in tooth and claw.

You really must meet this Nigerian guy who has been contacting me. Shall I forward him your home address so you can chat more easily about unlocking his fortune?

Re: Free Holiday
We had two free holidays with Club La Costa before we actually joined as full members last year. You have to put up with one days hard sell whilst you are there but just say no at the end of the day and enjpy the rest of the free week without any hassle.

Re: Free Holiday
is it contractual that you HAVE to attend the sales process?

just check the T&C's. Know what you are getting into.

if there is nothing in there just tell them to fuck off and sit with your bollocks out on the lounger

Re: Free Holiday
It's not a free holiday if you have to pay for flights. Basically they're giving you somewhere to kip with a lot of grief thrown in.

Re: Free Holiday
Mate of mine used to work for one of these firms. He turned up at the airport with the 'free transfer' and proceed to drive them around to various building developments before taking them to their 'free' accommodation. He got paid well for what it was so never pressured anyone. He left that to the pressure wankers at the two or three meetings they were obliged to attend. This company paid for flights too though. Steer clear
